Brooklyn Museum to hold Fashion Night dedicated to 'Black Dandies'

The Brooklyn Museum on June 1 is hosting Fashion Night: Modern Black Dandies, as part of a month long variety of programs inspired by the people of color in the US and the LGBTQ community.

 
Fashion Night: Modern Black Dandies kicks off the month and will include a night of fashion, film, music and conversation that explore the art and style of black dandies, men of color who use fashion to define and inhabit a racially independent public persona.
 
Co-hosted by Aperture Foundation, Fashion Night will be held in honor of The Dandy Lion: The Black Dandy and Street Style, the new book by Shantrelle P. Lewis, and will be presented at the museum’s performance spaces and Georgia O’Keeffe: Living Modern exhibition galleries.

Brooklyn Museum will also hold nine additional events in June, including the kickoff of the Black Queer Brooklyn on Film series, LGBTQ teen night, and a 20th anniversary screening of The Watermelon Woman.
