In 2017, the French fashion house is focusing on Gabrielle, the woman behind the famous ‘Coco’ moniker. A women’s perfume named Gabrielle Chanel will be unveiled this autumn by the label, in a first for Chanel in nearly 15 years, since the launch of ‘Chance’ in 2003.

Chanel is setting the founder’s name firmly in the spotlight in 2017 with a worldwide communication strategy and targeted products. The brand’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld also chose to name a bag from the Spring/ Summer ’17 collection after the businesswoman, who founded the label in 1910. The flagship product will be propelled into spring with a dedicated media campaign, alongside four films about ‘the values of rebelliousness, freedom, passion and allure that guided the life of Gabrielle Chanel, and which remain an inspiration today for all women,’ the label stated in a release.

The idea of freedom is expected to be reflected in the new creation, which will arrive later in the year. The specific scents have not yet been disclosed, but have been developed by Olivier Polge, perfumer for the label since 2013.
