In a release, Tapestry CEO Victor Luis stated that Cavens’ many years of experience in online retail and data analytics will be “invaluable” as the company aims to push its digital development.

Cavens became president of Qurate’s New Ventures division in December 2017, a role in which he leads a team exploring innovative new retail concepts and other growth opportunities including strategic partnerships, acquisitions and joint ventures.

Prior to this, he served of president and CEO of Seattle-based e-commerce company Zulily which he co-founded in 2010 and helped secure $85 million in private funding before it went public in 2013. The company was acquired by Liberty Interactive Corporation in 2015 in one of the largest e-commerce acquisitions ever and was subsequently incorporated into the QVC Group.

Before Zulily, Cavens worked at Microsoft where he was the head of the BizTalk Server business, spending a year with the company. He also served as chief technology officer and SVP of marketing during an almost decade-long stint at Blue Nile.

“The Tapestry Board seeks to bring a diversity of experiences and perspectives to our deliberations. We are delighted to have found a true digital innovator and entrepreneur in Darrell,” said Chairman of the Tapestry Board Jide Zeitlin in the brand release. “I am certain he will bring important and unique insights to our conversation as Tapestry navigates an increasingly dynamic retail environment.”

“I am excited to be joining the Board of Directors of Tapestry, a truly innovative, brand led company,” added Cavens. “I look forward to supporting the company and helping to inform its digital strategies as it continues to drive long-term sustainable growth.”

Cavens’ appointment brings the total membership of Tapestry’s Board of Directors up to eleven.
