Fear of God and Ssense partner on capsule collection

Ssense, the Montreal-based retailer and website, recently tapped Fear of God to partner on a capsule collection.

The three-piece capsule contains exclusive pieces from Jerry Lorenzo’s Los Angeles-based brand, such as a Mandarin oxford shirt, flannel sleeveless shirt and green bomber jacket. Each piece is reminiscent of what Fear of God currently offers on its website and even in its collection with Justin Bieber.

In addition to launching the capsule, Lorenzo spoke with Ssense about his career and entering the fashion industry:

“Whether I was working at Gap or at Diesel, or Dolce & Gabbana when I moved to L.A., my passion was retail and clothing,” said Lorenzo. “Fast forward to 2012, and I had my own sports marketing thing and managed some guys, doing their styling and helping them with their looks. A lot of the pieces I wanted to help them with weren’t available on the market. So I went downtown to figure out how to make like, a short sleeve hoodie.”

Lorenzo launched Fear of God in 2013 and quickly became a favorite of Kanye West, one of his friends, and Bieber. The pop singer was outfitted in Fear of God for his Purpose Tour in 2016, and the collection later launched at VFiles, Urban Outfitters and Barneys. Fear of God also has an ongoing collaboration with PacSun.

Lorenzo said that he gets much of his inspiration from the late Kurt Cobain, NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson and the character John Bender from The Breakfast Club, as well as Los Angeles. He also often looks to his own style and wardrobe.

Lorenzo continued, “My collections are just based on how I dress. There’s this thing in L.A. fashion where we pretend like we don’t care. So how do you look like you don’t care? What’s the perfect version of that? To me, it’s taking these American classics, adding zippers on a flannel, making it hip-hop, and giving it a little Iverson. So much of what Fear of God is, is just taking from all these things and trying to find my personal style.”

The Fear of God x Ssense capsule collection is available now on the Ssense website. Prices range from $450 to $1,095.
