German multi-brand outdoor retailer Globetrotter has appointed Johannes Jurecka to the newly created position of chief operations officer. The industry executive previously served as head of operations for Foot Locker Europe, where he steered the Runners Point and Sidestep channels. At Globetrotter, Jurecka will be in charge of e-commerce, marketing and fashion operations.

The announcement coincides with the appointment of new marketing director, Matthias Schwarte. Schwarte first joined Globetrotter in 2016, after working for retailer Ecco; firstly in charge of its sports division, before taking on the role of marketing director for Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2014.

"Both boast many year's retail experience," said CEO, Henrik Hoffman, in speaking of the two appointments. "The marketing director position was vacant for a long time. And the chief operations officer role is new and Johannes will support operational development in areas of e-commerce, marketing and physical trade."

Globettroter was acquired in June 2015 by the Fenix Outdoor group, owner of the Swedish brand Fjällräven and retailer Naturkompaniet.

The group experienced a mixed result in 2016. While Globetrotter managed to improve its profitability, sales nevertheless dropped by 4%, with the brand recording a turnover of 178 million euros.
