FRANKFURT - German fashion house Hugo Boss on Thursday expressed "confidence" for business this year after turning in record sales and earnings in 2011.

"2011 was another record year for Hugo Boss. And 2012 has also got off to a good start for us," said chief executive Claus-Dietrich Lahrs.

"I am therefore confident, despite the uncertain economic environment, that we will take another big step towards achieving our medium-term goals in the current fiscal year."

Net profit jumped 53 percent to 284 million euros ($377 million) for the full year on a 19-percent increase in sales to 2.059 billion euros, Hugo Boss said.

In the fourth quarter alone, bottom-line earnings were up 67 percent at 53 million euros and revenues rose by 18 percent to 499 million euros.

"Double-digit increases in all regions and significant growth in our own retail business contributed to this development," it said.
