“Air Jordan is heading to Los Angeles” could have been a sports headline in 1991 for the NBA Finals matchup between the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers, but this year it’s suited for the opening of the brand’s first retail location in Los Angeles.

Foot Locker is currently preparing to open a Jordan Brand store at 620 S. Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles, the former home of Schaber’s Cafeteria and Figaro Bistrot.

The footwear retailer tapped San Francisco-based firm McCall Design Group to design the store that will feature a 1,369-square-foot fitness room, locker room, and a VIP lounge. In addition, the new store will be adorned with a neon "Studio 23" signage, in reference to Michael Jordan's jersey number. An opening date has not been announced.

Jordan in late 2016 opened its first European store in Paris at 12 rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine. The brand also operates stores in Chicago, Toronto and Hong Kong, which is Asia’s largest Jordan-only retail location.
