The new hires will serve customers on the selling floor, as well as fulfill buy online, pick-up-in-store orders that have become the norm for holiday shopping.

“Macy’s has had a great start to this holiday season with high customer volume across our business. Due to the strong traffic in our stores, we are adding associates in our stores across the country to ensure that customers continue to receive the high level of service they have come to expect from us,” said John Harper, Macy's Chief Stores Officer.

Macy’s initially planned to hire 80,000 workers for the holiday season, which would have been a 20% increase in staff for the season and a decrease from last year, which saw 83,000 seasonal workers hired. The retail chain is also operating 70 fewer stores than last year.

“We are excited to be further expanding our seasonal workforce,” said Harper. “Seasonal workers play an important role in the Macy’s holiday shopping experience and, in addition to a competitive hourly income, they will experience a flexible working environment and benefit from a merchandise discount.”
