New feature on Target app guides customers around the store in real-time

Early in the summer, Target teased it would be providing in-store maps on its Cartwheel app to guide shoppers to Cartwheel deals. It has since then upped the ante by rolling out Bluetooth-powered Beacons to provide customers with a real-time map of the store that showcases all available merchandise, where it’s located and whether or not it’s on sale. It will also let users know if they are located near deals connected to the Cartwheel coupon feature on the app.

The previously tested program is slated to roll out in approximately half of the Target stores in time for the holiday shopping season with plans for growth in an effort to stay ahead of fierce competitor Amazon that is aggressively looking to expand brick-and-mortar retail space after its acquisition of Whole Foods. In addition to the real-time map, Target also plans to allow mobile payments via its app in the near future.
