Nordstrom cuts just over 100 customer care positions in the US

Nordstrom announced on Monday that it is cutting 106 Customer Care specialist jobs nationwide. Of those 106 jobs, 30 are based in Seattle and 18 are based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The 58 remaining affected employees work remotely.

The Seattle-based company cut the positions after noticing a decrease in customers reaching out to Customer Care. Nordstrom, which was named the US’ favorite fashion retailer five years in a row, said in a statement that it decided to cut the jobs after trying numerous solutions.

“We’ve made a number of investments across our business to make shopping easier and more convenient for our customers. One of the results of that has been a decrease in the number of customers who reach out to Customer Care for support, which has put us in the position of being overstaffed on that team,” said Nordstrom.

According to Retail Dive, Nordstrom carefully considered cutting customer service roles due to its customer service-centric reputation. In addition, the cut employees will be compensated through April 1.

Nordstrom also announced this week the appointment of Brent Beabout as EVP, Supply Chain. He joins the company from Walmart where he served as SVP, E-commerce Supply Chain, overseeing Walmart and Sam’s Club.
