Public School opens first store

Public School this week unveiled its first retail location as part of the CFDA Retail Lab. The New York City-based fashion label is the third occupant of the Retail Lab space at 330 Hudson Street following Timo Weiland and Cushnie et Ochs.

The temporary store houses the brand’s spring collection, including apparel and accessories. Customers will be hard-pressed to take their eyes off the car stuck in one of the space’s walls. Designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne made a store installation that features a crashed Cadillac car stuck in the wall with an open trunk that carries merchandise. The finishing touch is the ‘PSNY’ license plate.

The new store serves as the first Public School retail location, but the duo is familiar with operating a retailer due to their time spent at DKNY. The opening does come at an opportune time for Chow and Osborne, allowing the designers to focus solely on Public School, following their departure from DKNY.

CFDA also announced this month a partnership with Accenture, making the global professional services company the Official Innovation Partner of the CFDA Retail Lab. The partnership will help participating Retail Lab designers gain knowledge and digital skills that are found in the market today. Public School will be one of the first brands to experience the partnership.

Public School will be at the CFDA Retail Lab through March, and will be followed by designers Tanya Taylor, Prabal Gurung and Pamela Love.
