Roka sunglasses win Gear of the Year award

Dallas, TX-based Roka Sports Inc. has been awarded the Outside Magazine Gear of the Year Award for its recently-launched titanium performance sunglasses.

The Phantom sunglasses line offers extremely lightweight sunglasses made of patented technology. The titanium glasses weigh only 20 grams and are being praised for driving innovation in the space of performance eyewear.

The Roka sunglasses took over a year of research and development and have been on the market for six months. The patented technology in the sunglasses relies on the same concept as biomimicry which generates a secure grip on the wearer's face while playing sports and actively perspiring in them.

The lenses are nylon-based and are treated with an extra-durable hard coating to limit scratching, smudging and fogging.

Roka was founded in 2013 and is known for its Ironman partnership. It makes technical apparel and equipment for men and women. The Phantom line of sunglasses embody the iconic aviator silhouette. They retail for $275.

Outside Magazine conducts its Gear of the Year search twice yearly for summer and winter products that will help athletes perform at their top. The winning products are then published in the buyer's guide which is published spring and winter.
