Toronto’s Ryerson University’s startup incubator has opened a location in New York City, giving entrepreneurs and companies from across Canada a chance to grow their business in the U.S.

Baptized the Digital Media Zone (DMZ) and launched in 2010, the DMZ is one of Canada’s largest business incubators, which has incubated and accelerated over 200 startups out of Toronto’s Ryerson University.

The incubator serves businesses in various industries including the arts, real estate, medical and retail sectors.

The New York location will serve to help Canadian startups expand their business footprint, gain recognition in the U.S. or grow their talent base.

The collaborative workspace opened in New York on Tuesday and is open to startups from across Canada. The new office is located at Primary in New York City’s financial district and includes a fully furnished office area, on-site fitness studio, espresso bar, kitchen and more.

“Primary’s long history of working with startups and involvement in the startup community will help fast-growing Canadian entrepreneurs on the ground navigate New York City’s startup landscape and facilitate a physical space for their American operations,” Ryerson said in a news statement.
