Founded in 2012, Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores is an extension of Sears Holdings, made to increase profitability for the company. Each Sears Outlet store on average has 18,000 square feet of retail space.

Peter Verniere of Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores said,  “We will continue to provide them with a simplified Outlet shopping experience with our highly-trained staff, who will guide customers and educate them on brands and models on a daily basis. We are committed to continued satisfaction and look forward to being an integral part of the community for years to come.”

The change in ownership comes a few days after Sears Canada announced that it is closing after failing to find a buyer. The retail chain on Friday sought court approval to shutter its 130 stores and expects to begin its liquidation sale on October 19. Earlier in October, Sears Canada won court approval to close 11 stores, including 10 full-line stores and one Home store.

In addition, Sears Holdings on Monday announced the resignation of Bruce Berkowitz from its Board of Directors. Berkowitz will exit the board on October 31, 2017.
