After an initial testing in the Minneapolis area in May, Target has now officially launched its next-day delivery service in an effort to keep up with mega-competitor Amazon who is commanding this space.

Available to REDcard holders only, the service allows online shoppers to browse through 10,000-plus product options in the household essentials arena (think paper towels, cleaning supplies and even food items like peanut butter) and get them delivered the next day for $4.99 per box—each with a capacity of 45 pounds each. If the consumer has not reached the target weight, they will be notified.

Since the program is in an infancy stage, Target is reportedly unsure of how long the program will last, but it does want to expand it to non-REDcard holders. In a company statement, Target said it will fine-tune the expedited shipping service in stages.

Walmart’s attempt to fill this channel failed back in January when the company decided to scrap its ShippingPass program. Now the discount retailer provides a two-day shipping model that doesn’t have annual membership fees.
