Timo Weiland will take over the Renaissance Hotel lobby with an installation on the hotel's grand debut event.

The New York City-based designer turned the hotel lobby into a replica of his own fashion “studio” complete with fabrics, machinery, instruments, and his collection. The installation is intended to allow guests to become fashion designers for the hotel’s debut event.

The Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel, which is the first digitally enhanced and living hotel, is located in the Garment District in Manhattan next to Skylight at Moynihan Station, the New York Fashion Week hub. The hotel’s location nearby Skylight and Madison Square Garden made Weiland the best choice for collaboration not only for his design prowess but also for his experience as a DJ. The Renaissance also features a “living wall” that responds to human movement and acts as the hotel’s concierge.

In addition to the studio installation, Weiland will have a DJ set alongside his co-founder and design director Alan Eckstein, as well as Harley Viera-Newton, DJ Franco V, Elle Dee, and Alexandra Richards. Live performances by Wyclef Jean and The Knocks will kick off the debut event.

Timo Weiland is one of six designers to participate in the CFDA and Cadillac’s Retail Lab that gives each designer their own retail shop for three months. Weiland is the first designer to participate in the program.
