Amazon is planning to open a second fulfilment centre in Jacksonville, Florida, which will create over 1,000 full-time jobs. At present, Amazon employs more than 4,000 full-time employees in Florida. In the last three years, Amazon has announced multiple facilities in Florida including four fulfilment centres.

The new fulfillment center will employ 1,000 people

At the new 1-million-square-foot fulfilment center in Jacksonville, employees will pick, pack and ship products in large quantities which include garments, fashion accessories and home textiles among others.

“We are excited to further expand our presence in the state with this new fulfilment centre in Jacksonville… Florida has been an ideal location to help enable superfast shipping speeds to customers and a source of exceptional talent for Amazon. We’re proud to be creating great jobs with benefits for Floridians,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vice president of North American operations.

“Amazon’s decision to continue investing and creating jobs in our state is great news. I look forward to celebrating the many new job opportunities Amazon will bring to Jacksonville families and their continued success across Florida,” said governor Rick Scott.

“Amazon’s expansion to the Jacksonville area is a great opportunity for North Florida job seekers to get a job in Florida’s competitive logistics industry. We are thankful for Amazon’s commitment to Florida and look forward to its creation of more than 1,000 new jobs in Jacksonville,” said Cissy Proctor, executive director of the Florida department of economic opportunity.

“This is an exciting development for Jacksonville and the Cecil Commerce Centre, a commercial and industrial centre,” said mayor Lenny Curry.
