After a rocky fourth quarter, it looks like things might be looking up for Kearney, Nebraska-based apparel, accessories and footwear retailer The Buckle, Inc., which posted accelerated sales growth in June.

For the five-week period ended July 6, 2019, the youth-focused retail chain reported a 6.2% rise in comparable store sales compared to the prior-year period, while net sales increased 5.5% to $74.8 million, up from $70.9 million in June 2018.

These results represent a significant improvement when compared to the retailer’s most recent sales performances. Following a 6% decrease in sales in Buckle’s fourth quarter ended February 2, 2019, the retailer’s revenues leveled out in March and even managed a slight increase of 1.7% in April, before slipping back into decline in May, which registered a sales decrease of 1.1%.

Year to date, Buckle’s net sales registered a slight dip of 0.1%, totaling $337.6 million in the 22-week period ended July 6, 2019, down from $338.0 million in the same period in the previous year. Comparable store sales for the period rose 0.4%.

Buckle completed one store closure in June and currently operates 448 stores in 42 states, down from the 455 locations in 43 states that made up the retailer’s store network at the end of June 2018.
