CFDA pulls out of Fashion Awards broadcast

The CFDA this week announced that it will no longer televise the 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards.

 
The organization and The Weinstein Company announced in March a partnership to broadcast the awards ceremony and red carpet arrivals. On Tuesday, Steven Kolb, CFDA President and CEO, said in a statement:
 
“As previously announced, the 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards will be held at The Hammerstein Ballroom for the first time after seven years at Alice Tully Hall. The new venue comes with a dynamic new format featuring performances, live fashion and the return to a seated dinner. With all these changes, we have decided to not move forward with a television broadcast opportunity this year.”

The American media is reporting that broadcast costs are the reason why the CFDA will no longer televise the awards. Costs reached the millions and Kolb and CFDA Chairman Diane von Furstenberg were then turned off from the idea.
 
Kolb and von Furstenberg said in March that they have agreed that “it was time to further elevate the CFDA Fashion Awards and bring them to the wider audience on television.” Harvey Weinstein and Patrick Reardon of The Weinstein Company and Kolb were to serve as Executive Producers and KCD was to produce the event.
 
The 2016 CFDA Fashion Awards, in collaboration with Swarovski, will be held on June 6th at Hammerstein Ballroom.
