CFDA releases NYFW women’s preliminary schedule

In just seven weeks, New York Fashion Week will begin and kick off the women’s fashion season. This September marks as the third season where NYFW is located at the Skylight at Moynihan Station and Skylight Clarkson Square venues. The CFDA this month released the preliminary schedule for the weeklong event and made note of some of the major shows.

Much like the previous seasons, VFiles will present on the evening of the first day, then Nicholas K the following morning, and Marc Jacobs will close the week on Thursday, September 15. Pyer Moss, Hood by Air, Victoria Beckham and Naeem Khan have morning and afternoon time slots on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday, and Alexander Wang, Opening Ceremony and Rag & Bone will close out Saturday, Sunday and Monday, respectively.

Notable shows for NYFW include Oscar de la Renta, Rag & Bone, Tommy Hilfiger and DKNY, which the latter is scheduled for 11am on Sunday, September 11. Creative Directors Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne would typically show their Public School collections at that time slot but they shifted away from the fashion week schedules to show in June and December.

The Oscar de la Renta show in September will be the first without Peter Copping, who stepped down as Creative Director in July after less than two years. Rag & Bone has a similar narrative with the departure of former co-CEO David Neville in June, though he remains as a member of the Board.

Tommy Hilfiger announced in February that it would align its fashion show with the retail calendar beginning this September. The company will hold a full-scale “Buy Now. Wear Now” fashion show for consumers and press that will include the debut of the full TommyXGigi collection made in collaboration with Gigi Hadid.

NYFW is welcoming a number of brands and designers this season including Sies Marjan and Akris, which moved its show from Paris to New York for this season, as well as Thakoon, which is returning to NYFW this season, and Tom Ford who is holding an intimate presentation on September 7. Ford is expected to show his Fall/Winter 2016 line to also be in agreement with the retail calendar.

The Yeezy Season 3 show at Madison Square Garden during NYFW in February

The Yeezy Season show is not included on the preliminary schedule, which is not out of the ordinary. Kanye West announced his Yeezy Season 2 show late last September, which forced Anne Bowen to move her Nomad VII show to another time and cut into Naeem Khan’s show attendance. Last season, West presented his Yeezy Season 3 collection at Madison Square Garden, which coincided with the release of his album, The Life of Pablo. Adidas announced a long-term partnership deal with West in June, which begs the question of whether they will show a collection in September.

This show season also marks the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The organization said on its website, “New York Fashion Week and Sept. 11 are inextricably linked, and the CFDA is working with the City and the CFDA membership to find appropriate ways to mark the anniversary.”

New York Fashion Week begins on September 7.
