Canada's Loulou magazine to close
Dec 1, 2016
Rogers Media will be pulling the plug on women’s magazine Loulou.
The news follows an announcement in September by Rogers with plans to cut its print publication output and focus on a digital strategy was revealed.
Rogers was unable to find a buyer for women’s magazine Loulou and will instead close the English and French language versions of the publication at the end of the year. In turn, dozens of magazine workers have been laid off.
Beginning January 2017, other Rogers publications including Flare magazine along with Sportsnet, MoneySense, and Canadian Business will also cease their print edition and will be published online exclusively. Though Rogers also announced plans to fully withdraw from the French-language magazine market, it will hold on to french-language lifestyle magazine Châtelaine.
"It's been clear for some time now that Canadians are moving from print to digital, and our job is to keep pace with the changes our audiences are demanding […] Now is the time for us to accelerate that shift," said Steve Maich, Senior Vice President of Digital Content & Publishing, Rogers Media, in a news statement.
