Champion taps Clothsurgeon for vintage Ivy League capsule

American sportswear brand Champion and British streetwear label Clothsurgeon have announced the release of their collaborative vintage varsity-inspired capsule collection.

 
Channelling Ivy League college sportswear from the 1940s, 50s and 60s, the menswear capsule features vintage-style cardigans, hooded letterman sweatshirts and jackets, as well as sweatshirts, jogging pants, t-shirts and caps.
 
First unveiled during Paris Fashion Week earlier this year, the collection brings together Clothsurgeon’s contemporary tailoring expertise and the signature sportswear stylings of Champion, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, combining different fabrics, textures and cuts in order to convey the union of the two brands’ distinct aesthetics.

“I’m obsessed with vintage sports apparel,” explained Clothsurgeon founder Rav Matharu in a release. “So working with Champion on the occasion of its 100th anniversary was an exciting opportunity. Being able to make something new with the Champion brand in terms of silhouette and construction, while also keeping the DNA of the two brands intact. Creating a real and authentic collaboration in the blink of eye at a time when we have been inspiring each other a lot.”
 
Riding on a wave of 90s nostalgia, Champion has been busy making a successful fashion comeback over the last couple of years, signing off on collaborations with everyone from cult New York-based streetwear label Supreme to UK charity London Youth and, more recently, Japanese apparel brand Beams.
 
Founded in London in 2012, Clothsurgeon has made a name for itself through its original Saville Row approach to streetwear. The label’s previous collaboration partners also include Supreme, as well as Nike and Vans.
