The two-floor, 310 square-metre-space replaces a smaller boutique in Holt Renfrew, which is currently being overhauled for the debut of Holt Renfrew Ogilvy, scheduled for 2020.

The new boutique officially opened in November and houses an assortment of ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, costume jewellery and eyewear, as well as a selection of watches and fine Jewellery. Chanel equally used the boutique opening to launch its Cruise 2020 collection created by artistic director of fashion collections, Virginie Viard.

Offering an impressive street-front façade, the store was designed by longtime Chanel collaborator architect Peter Marino.

True to the brand’s iconic codes, custom fabrics in the House’s emblematic tweeds were created along with silk and wool carpeting, created specifically for the Montreal boutique.

Textured wall finishes were hand-applied in custom ‘moongold’ and coromandel tones, while black, white, and gold detailing can be found throughout the store playing on the contrast between dark and light.

The boutique doubles the space offered at its former location and is accessible via a new street-front presence on rue de la Montagne, and through a main boutique entrance on the first floor of Holt Renfrew Ogilvy.

At the entrance, visitors will be greeted by a high-ceiled atrium. To the left, customers will find the first accessory salon, dedicated to costume jewellery and handbags, featuring an array of styles; from seasonal reinterpretations of the 2.55 handbag to the 11.12 and Boy Chanel, as well as Chanel’s Gabrielle and newly introduced Chanel 19 handbag.

To the right, Chanel watches and fine jewellery can be found including pieces from the Coco Crush collection, as well as a selection of iconic watches, such as the Boy.Friend, Code Coco and the J12, presented in glass cabinets. Above the display is a specially-commissioned artwork by Hugo McCloud.

Next, twin staircases lead to the upper floor of the boutique. The staircase to the left brings clients to a second accessory salon, this time dedicated to small leather goods, eyewear, and other accessories. The staircase to the right leads to the shoe salon, offering a large assortment, from the two-tone slingback and ballerina flats to heels and sneakers.

To the right of the shoe salon is the ready-to-wear salon, which was designed to offer the feel of Mademoiselle Chanel’s legendary apartment at 31 rue Cambon in Paris. Finally, the north side of the ready-to-wear salon transitions to a lobby and two fitting rooms.

Chanel has been present in Montreal via its partnership with Holt Renfrew since the early '90s. It equally operates standalone boutiques in Toronto and Vancouver, as well as shop-in-shop boutiques at Holt Renfrew in Calgary and Toronto.

Holt Renfrew Ogilvy is expected to be complete in spring 2020. Several boutiques have already opened on the main floor, including Bottega Veneta, David Yurman and Prada.
