Coach names Michael B. Jordan as first global menswear ambassador

Luxury fashion brand Coach has announced actor and producer Michael B. Jordan as its first global menswear ambassador.

The new partnership will begin with global advertising campaigns for men's ready-to-wear, accessories and fragrance, starting with the spring 2019 season. It will also include special design projects with Creative Director Stuart Vevers and philanthropic endeavors with the Coach Foundation.

"Michael is cool and authentic, and he really embodies the Coach guy," said Vevers in a press release. "I've had the chance to get to know Michael over the last couple of years. He always looks great in Coach, so it felt really natural to build our relationship."

This collaboration follows a pattern of brands across the spectrum ramping up the intensity of their celebrity partnerships. As well as luxury labels like Coach, brands such as Banana Republic and H&M have increasingly allowed ambassadors to take on a genuinely collaborative role, engaging personally with elements of design.

The Michael B. Jordan collaboration parallels the brand's similar ongoing partnership with Selena Gomez, which was first announced in 2016 and dropped its most recent collection in August.

Coach was founded in New York over 75 years ago as a men's accessories brand known for its leather goods. The brand is currently owned by the multinational luxury fashion holding company Tapestry, along with brands Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman
