Construction begins on new fashion district in Calgary, Destination: Deerfoot City

Shape Properties announced on Wednesday that the next phase in the transformation of Destination: Deerfoot City, a new shopping destination coming to Calgary, Alberta, has begun.
 
The former Deerfoot Mall is being transformed into an open-air destination with a landscaped restaurant campus, a modern social hub and a new retail experience.

 
The demolition of the former Deerfoot Mall has begun in order to make way for a new road being constructed through the centre to link the north and south halves of the property. When complete, this road will become Deerfoot Boulevard, a fashion high street at the heart of the Deerfoot City plan.
 
Deerfoot Boulevard will encompass two of the key areas at Deerfoot City: The Style District and The Food Lodge. The Style District will house Deerfoot City's eclectic zone for street front shopping and culture, while The Food Lodge will offer an area for shoppers to retreat, refuel and warm up by a fireplace.

During construction, retailers like Cabela's, Winners, GoodLife Fitness and Original Joe's remain open. New tenants like Canadian Tire and The Rec Room by Cineplex Entertainment will be added by the end of the year.
