Crabtree & Evelyn Canada files for bankruptcy

The Canadian division of beauty and home retailer Crabtree & Evelyn filed for bankruptcy protection last week with plans to liquidate its inventory and close all its stores.

The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company filled in the Quebec Superior Court under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act where it was noted that the company has been experiencing “significant losses” over the last few years. 
 
Crabtree & Evelyn operates 19 stores in Canada including 11 in Ontario, 6 in British-Columbia, and one in Quebec, and in Alberta. 

Crabtree & Evelyn Canada’s assets are valued at $1.3 million in inventory and $300,000 in its wholesale accounts receivable, while debts are $15.2-million. 
 
The company said it plans to liquidate inventory in order to distribute the proceeds to creditors.
 
Crabtree & Evelyn was founded in 1972 and is available online in more than 40 countries.
