David Yurman wins big in counterfeit jewelry case

David Yurman has won a case against has won over $1.5 million in a counterfeit case against 31 defendants.

The verdict, announced on January 2 by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, awarded the jeweler $1.55 million in aggregate statutory damages against the defendants, who "operated infringing websites selling counterfeit David Yurman jewelry," according to a press statement. 

In addition to the damages, the court also issued a permanent injunction against the defendants, and any person acting with them, from manufacturing, distributing, advertising or selling any counterfeit models of the jeweler's products. Finally, the judgment also requires that the defendants permanently transfer the domain names of their infringing websites to David Yurman.

The jewelry company explained that the defendants operated a network of websites made to look like authorized David Yurman websites by unlawfully using the company's trademarks and copyrighted campaign images, with the intent of fooling shoppers with counterfeit David Yurman jewelry.

"We are pleased with the judgment and will continue to take aggressive action to protect our consumers, our designs and our trademarks," said Carol Pennelli, president of David Yurman.  "We will not tolerate infringers and counterfeiters in the marketplace regardless of where they operate."

The David Yurman website continues to have a page dedicated to allowing customers to report fraud and fraudulent websites claiming to sell the luxury jeweler's pieces.
