After choosing Quebec to open its first two stores in Canada last year, international sporting goods retailer Decathlon is ready to expand into Ontario.

The France-based company is expected to open three new stores in the country this fall including Ottawa, the nation’s capital. The two other stores will open in Montreal - as previously announced at the Montreal Eaton Center– and in Quebec City in Sainte-Foy.

In Ottawa, Decathlon will be located at 1021 boulevard Saint-Laurent and will span 5200 square meters in a space left vacant by the American chain Target in 2015.

Like all Decathlon stores, which are highly experiential, the Ottawa location is expected to house two indoor sports fields, a product testing area and a café-meetings area.

The sporting goods retailer operates nearly 1,500 stores in over 40 countries around the world. It entered Quebec in spring 2018 with a location in the Champlain shopping center in Brossard, located in the outskirts of Montreal.

Most recently, it opened its second suburban Montreal store in Boisbriand.

According to local media, Gatineau might be another potential market for the retailer in Canada.

Decathlon has also been eyeing the American market and opened its second store in the U.S. last month in Emeryville, CA. Its first American location opened in April 2018 at 735 Market Street in San Francisco.
