Ebay takes aim at luxury market with Spring partnership

Ebay has partnered with Groupe Arnault-backed luxury e-tailer Spring to create a curated storefront on the site, allowing access to brands like Saint Laurent, Prada, and Chloé.

"The Spring and eBay partnership is evidence of a growing trend in which retailers are partnering – instead of competing – with other retailers," said Jill Ramsey, Vice President of Merchandising at Ebay.

The partnership with Spring helps Ebay by bringing coveted brands onto one landing page. Spring's assortment includes jewelry, apparel, accessories and footwear. Brands carried include Missoni and Free People, as well as Bobbi Brown and Vans.

Alan Tisch, Founder & CEO of Spring said that "Spring's mission is to bring top brands to consumers at a variety of tastes, style and prices."

Tisch noted that partnering with Ebay expands Spring's reach significantly. Ebay has over 171 million active buyers and 370 million downloads of its apps. 88% of merchandise on Ebay is sold through the Buy It Now feature which does not involve bidding.

Spring has been an Ebay member since May of this year and sells under the name Shop Spring. It currently has 500 followers, however with the official partnership and creation of a storefront that number will grow quickly.
