Fendi has chosen Canadian luxury retailer Holt Renfrew to house its new flagship boutique in Toronto.

Located at Holt Renfrew in Yorkdale Shopping Centre, the new location houses Fendi Women’s in a luxury retail space spanning over 1,900 square feet.

The space hosts three distinct areas including a zone dedicated to handbags, small leather goods and accessories, as well as a shoe salon and women’s ready-to-wear and fur.

Meanwhile, the store was designed with the brand’s Roman heritage and its modern, playful aesthetic of avant-garde design in-mind with notable features including fabric walls with hand-applied finishes juxtaposed against brass and Italian marble and limestone.

Likewise, the walls are decorated with archive sketches designed by Karl Lagerfeld, while accent furniture like plush aqua and champagne coloured silk modular velvet sofas and burgundy arm chairs complement handmade powder pink and lavender carpets.

The new Fendi flagship is one of many full-sized ‘world of’ leased shop-in-store concessions that Holt Renfrew has opened over the last year.

Holt Renfrew has opened several ‘world of’ concessions including a Balenciaga concession in Vancouver, while Gucci is set to open a large space in Yorkdale Shopping Centre.

It also operates a Saint Laurent street-level boutique on Toronto’s Bloor Street West, which is considered a concession within the Holt Renfrew complex.

Fendi currently features three boutiques in Canada at Holt Renfrew on Bloor Street, Holt Renfrew Yorkdale and Holt Renfrew Vancouver and is expected to open new Men’s and Women’s boutiques at Holt Renfrew Ogilvy in Montreal, in early 2020.

Last summer, Holt Renfrew announced a $400 million investment to renovate and expand its store network across Canada, as well as its online platform.

The addition of shop-in-store concessions were considered in an effort to attract the world’s top brands to its stores.

Holt Renfrew, which was once commonly referred to as the “Barneys of Canada”, has had to face increased competition in Canada’s luxury market in recent years due to the entry of American retailers like Nordstrom (September 2014) and Saks Fifth Avenue (February 2016).
