The virtual fashion week, featuring couture collections for the autumn/winter 2020/21 season, will be held from Monday July 6 to Wednesday July 8 in Paris.

The news comes as a something of a surprise, since in the wake of the pandemic back April the federation had called off a live haute couture season scheduled for the same dates. It also called off the Paris menswear season scheduled for late June.

However, on Thursday even, the federation's statement read: “This event will be structured around a dedicated platform. The principle of the official calendar is maintained.

"Each house will be represented in the form of a creative film/video. Additional content will be included in an editorialized section of the platform. All of this will be widely shared on the main international media networks,” the federation added.

Houses as diverse as Christian Dior, Stéphane Rolland and August Getty of Los Angeles have all already confirmed to FashionNetwork.com that they plan to stage online events in July. Though each house is still working out the exact format.

Separately, the federation will also stage a separate online ready-to-wear season featuring both menswear and womenswear, with the working title Paris Fashion Week Digital.
