French luggage and leather goods brand Lipault has appointed Sébastien Valette as global general manager. He is tasked with boosting Lipault’s expansion in France and abroad, and succeeds Jonathan Dory, who held the role since 2014.

Valette cut his business teeth at German consumer goods group Henkel, which he joined in 2001. He started in the sales department, gradually climbing the corporate ladder to become the commercial director of the Schwarzkopf Professional division. Valette then joined the Samsonite group in 2010 as commercial director France, and was promoted to general manager of Samsonite France in August 2016.

“[Lipault] has a strong brand identity and a design style that is unique in the travel goods world,” said Valette, adding: “I will rely on the cornerstone of [Lipault’s] identity and on its enthusiastic staff to take on the challenge of promoting dynamic development in France and abroad.”

Valette will be wearing two corporate hats, since he will still hold the position of general manager of Samsonite France, while taking charge of Lipault both on the domestic market and worldwide.

Lipault currently operates some 20 monobrand stores, the majority of them in France, and is distributed via over 500 multibrand retailers.
