Hayley Elsaesser launches collection with News Media Canada

Canadian fashion designer Hayley Elsaesser is turning her attention to Canadian news media, with the launch of a new limited-edition collection.

Dubbed the 'Champion the Truth' capsule collection, the latest drop by the Toronto-based designer launches in partnership with News Media Canada and just in time for National Newspaper Week, which is running now until Oct. 10. 

The line is all about empowering Canadians to show their support for newspapers and Canadian news media, as a part of the celebration for National Newspaper Week. This year, the week recognizes the essential service newspapers provide with credible, diverse, local and original journalism.

The collection features a t-shirt, tote bag and mask emblazoned with the words “news” and “truth” in various languages spoken across Canada, as well as Elsaesser’s iconic mouthy print. It was inspired by Elsaesser’s grandfather, who was the proud owner and publisher of a local newspaper in British Columbia. 

To support Canadian journalism, all proceeds from the sales of the Champion the Truth capsule collection will be donated to Canadian Journalists for Free Expression.

Earlier this year, Elsaesser waved goodbye to her flagship in Toronto, in order to become a fully digital e-commerce business. The brand now embraces a primarily made-to-order business model, while continuing to release the occasional capsule collection. 

Launched in 2013, Elsaesser is a Canadian-designer favourite. Most recently, she celebrated the 60th anniversary of Barbie with an exclusive collection of Barbie-inspired clothing with fellow Canadian designers at the Hudson's Bay. She has also collaborated with the likes of Nike, Taco Bell and launched a lipstick collection with Annabelle Cosmetics.
