The winners were chosen by over 7,000 executives from the department store and retail industry, who voted in three categories. British department store retailer Harvey Nichols took home the prize for World's Best Store Window Campaign at a Department Store 2016 for its "Avoid Gift Face" campaign. Award finalists Myer (Australia) and La Rinascente (Italy) received trophies for their respective campaigns "Little Dog & The Christmas Wish" and "Edible Monsters".

Another British department store retailer, Selfridges, took home the prize for World's Best Sustainability/CSR Campaign by a Department Store 2016. It's the summit's first sustainability award and was given to Selfridges for its "Buying Better, Inspiring Change" campaign. Other award finalists were Paris Department Store (Chile) and Al Tayer (UAE).

Selfridges was also one of the finalists for the award for The Best Department Store in the World 2016, as was Ireland's Brown Thomas, but the prestigious award went to Paris' La Rinascente. This award "recognises an exceptional world player that displays innovation and outstanding performances in all retail segments to all stakeholders."

IGDS is the largest worldwide association of department stores and has 40 members from 36 countries on five continents.
