In 2013, Intersport International reported a 1% sale increase to 10.3 billion euros. It’s a satisfactory result for a year that saw a long winter and no major sporting events. Indeed, while running and fitness are emerging as promising business segments, winter sports such as football were down for the period. Meanwhile, the sporting chain Athlete's Foot, which Intersport International acquired in December 2012, recorded 270 million euros in sales.

The company recorded its most significant results in Europe, particularly in France, Germany or Britain. But Intersport International is continuing to expand internationally as well. In 2013, the company opened its first three stores in China, with eight more soon to follow. In Australia, 36 Independent Sports stores will become part of Intersport by the end of the month. In 2013, the sports distributor also opened its first stores in Morocco and Belarus and is now present in 44 countries with 5,400 points of sale.

According to the company, sales of Intersport International should grow between 2 and 4% in 2014 - especially given that Intersport is the official store for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, which began on Thursday June 12.
