The Santa Monica company posted a video on Monday, explaining the voluntary recall. “With the full knowledge and under the guidance of the FDA,” said co-founder Chris Gavigan, “we decided to voluntarily recall this product under an abundance of caution." The product has been on store shelves since early April.

The Honest Company has been in hot water before about the safety of its products. Social media users took to the internet to complain last summer, with allegations that the company’s sunscreens failed to prevent sunburns. Users posted photos of sunburns endured after applying the company’s sun protection products.

Lawsuits have been filed across the country arguing that many of the products ingredients are synthetic, claiming false-advertising on the brand’s ‘all-natural’ labelling. This hasn't stopped the brand, started by actress Jessica Alba and Christopher Gavigan, from raising $100 million in funding last August.
