Japanese retailing giant Fast Retailing has hired Swedish designer Lars Nilssen to head up design at European brands Comptoir des Cotonniers and Princesse tam.tam. Nilssen will complete an initial six month stint during which time he will be tasked with “accompanying the implementation of a research and development project in terms of creative inspirations, trends, style, silhouettes and fabric.”

Brought in in a more global capacity, Fast Retailing's European subsidiary has stated that the position is a new role at the company and that Nilssen will not be replacing Amélie Gillier who left Comptoir des Cotonniers in December. It also confirmed that, under the influence of Nilssen, the design teams behind the two brands would remain separate.

Based in France and a graduate from the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, Nilssen will continue to pursue his own creative endeavors. Prior to this appointment, the Swedish designer worked alongside John Galliano at Christian Dior and held the position creative director at Nina Ricci from 2003 to 2006. He also spent a short period at the design helm of Gianfranco Ferré.
