The French luxury brand has chosen the city’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre to house the new flagship.

The Yorkdale Louis Vuitton store will span over 8,000 square feet on one level and will carry an assortment of bags and accessories, as well as jewellery, footwear and ready-to-wear collections for both men and women.

The LVMH-owned brand will be well surrounded near several other luxury brands who have flocked to the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in recent years, such as Valentino who opened its first Canadian store in Yorkdale last year, joining fellow luxury brands like Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta and Van Cleef & Arpels

The new flagship opening is part of a larger investment that Louis Vuitton has initiated in the country.

It opened two standalone stores in Alberta in recent years including in June 2019, in Edmonton, at West Edmonton Mall, as well as in Calgary at CF Chinook Centre, in October of 2018. It also operates a 10,000-square-foot ‘Maison’ flagship at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Still, Louis Vuitton has long been available in the country thanks to a partnership with Holt Renfrew that has lasted close to a decade. It in fact already operates a leased concession space at Yorkdale’s Holt Renfrew store and at Holt Renfrew in Vancouver.

It also had a concession at the downtown Edmonton Holt Renfrew store, until the retailer shuttered the store earlier this year, and is currently building a new store at Holt Renfrew Ogilvy in Montreal.

The international luxury industry has been eyeing Canada for years. The infiltration of luxury retailers in notable Canadian cities like Toronto and Vancouver have been on the rise since 2015, starting with the entry of luxury retailers like Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue

According to reports, another Louis Vuitton store is expected to open in a major Canadian city later this year.
