Macy’s brings off-mall concept store to Fort Worth

New York-based department store retailer Macy’s, Inc. is bringing its off-mall concept store strategy to the WestBend lifestyle shopping center in Fort Worth, Texas.

The second Market by Macy’s store opens on Friday within the Dallas-Fort Worth area and offers a smaller format retail store of approximately 20,000-square-feet; designed to be easy to shop for greater convenience.

“To meet the needs of changing consumer behaviors, Macy’s continues to respond to better serve our customers,” said Macy’s, Inc. COO John Harper, in a news statement. 

“We’re excited about the value and enhanced shopping experience Market by Macy’s will bring to new and existing customers within the Dallas–Fort Worth community, building upon an ecosystem that gives our customers access to the fullness of the Macy’s brand, from on-mall to off-mall and full-line to off-price.”

The off-mall expansion strategy first launched in Southlake, Texas, in February 2020. 

The concept store offers product categories such as men, women, kids, beauty and gifts, from a range of brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Levi’s and Tommy Hilfiger, as well as Macy’s most popular private brands including INC International Concepts, Alfani and Hotel Collection.

Market by Macy’s will equally offer a Trend Pavilion, which highlights fashionable trends, must-haves and new seasonal products for shoppers to visit. 

Meanwhile, similar to full-line Macy’s stores, Market by Macy’s offers a variety of services including contactless curbside pick-up, buy online-pick-up in store, buy online-ship to store, and same-day delivery with DoorDash, which Macy’s has partnered with around the country. Customers can also pay their bill or pick-up orders from the “At Your Service” desk inside the store. 

The concept store opening comes as the retailer plans to shutter stores across the country. 

In January, Macy’s revealed that it will permanently shutter a further 37 locations this year, including 36 namesake stores and one Bloomingdale’s location. That follows the closing of some 30 stores in 2020. 

The company ended the year with around 540 Macy's locations.
