Marchesa co-founder Keren Craig quits

Luxury fashion label Marchesa is bidding goodbye to its co-founder Keren Craig.

The designer, who launched the U.S. label -- a red carpet favorite among celebrities -- in 2004 alongside Georgina Chapman, is leaving her position at the company, according to a slew of U.S. media reports.

"While I have made the difficult decision to part ways with Marchesa, I have tremendous pride in the company, the team, and the many successes achieved," Craig said in a statement to the press. "I am excited to now begin exploring additional creative opportunities and to push my potential as a designer in new directions."

The glamorous eveningwear and bridal brand has struggled in the light of a sexual misconduct scandal surrounding Chapman's estranged husband, Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, which broke late 2017. Marchesa's New York Fashion Week Fall 2018 show was subsequently cancelled in February last year and the brand has not staged a runway presentation since.

Craig's departure is the latest in a series of high-profile fashion exits this year.

In April, it was announced that the French creative Bertrand Guyon was stepping down from his position at the Italian heritage label Schiaparelli, while this month brought news of the fashion duo Humberto Leon and Carol Lim's imminent parting with Kenzo, the house they have overseen as creative directors for the past eight years.
