Moncler launched its ready-to-wear version of the couture collection Moncler Pierpaolo Piccioli at breakfast on Monday morning, in a quiet opening event to the haute couture season in Paris.

It was staged inside the Picasso Museum, decorated with a half dozen Moncler Pierpaolo Piccicoli couture looks standing proudly in the courtyard, or placed strategically on various landings inside the the key museum to Picasso in Paris, where he lived much of his artistic career.

None looked more beautiful than veteran model Liya Kebede, attired in a powder blue puffer, cut like a ski jacket, the first ready-to-wear (RTW) declination of Piccioliʼs couture vision of Moncler.

˝The original idea was a meeting of haute couture with different African cultures, all to help the Liya Kebede Foundation,˝ explained Piccioli, or as many know him, PPP.

He was referring to Kebedeʼs foundation that supports leading organisations working to reduce maternal and new-born deaths in Africa.

Moncler first unveiled these ideas in Milan almost a year ago. Todayʼs breakfast was to herald the launch of the collection in Moncler stores. The RTW skilfully incorporates the bold colours and multi-stripe trim of the original 10 looks, though radically reducing the massive crinoline shapes of the couture to sporty urban jackets. It begins retailing today in Moncler flagship stores, House of Genius at Galeries Lafayette on the Champs Elysees and moncler.com.

Piccioli, the couturier at Valentino, will present his next couture collection for that house on Wednesday evening in Paris.

Looking her usual preternaturally youthful self, the  41-year-old Kebede, posed on the main stairway with Piccioli and the CEO and main shareholder of Moncler, Remo Ruffini.

˝It’s really great of Moncler to support our project, so I am delighted to see Pierpaoloʼs beautiful ideas finally becoming ready-to-wear. And I think I’ll wear this jacket a lot, especially today,˝ said Kebede, as the temperature gauge read five degrees Celsius outside.
