“When we opened our first store in Western Canada, in August 2017, we were very surprised and happy to see so many people coming to visit us,” said Toru Akita, president of Muji Canada, in a news statement.

“One year later, we think it’s time to thank our loyal customers by offering them a bigger and better Muji Metrotown.”

The store, which currently occupies 7,770 square feet of retail space, will expand to some 12,305 square feet, becoming Muji’s second largest location in Canada.

The expanded store will offer new services such as the "Interior Advisory" service, the "Style Advisory" service, as well as the full “Muji Yourself” customization service, which includes embroidery, stamps, gift wrapping and label printing.

Meanwhile, for the first time in Canada, Muji will introduce a complimentary alteration service, and will be only the second location in the country to feature the Aroma Bar, which allows customers to create a customized fragrance blend by choosing from more than 40 essential oils.

Finally, it will house Muji Canada’s full range of merchandise including more than 4,000 items such as household goods, apparel and food.

Muji currently operates eight Canadian locations, with five stores located in the Greater Toronto Area. The retailer expanded to Canada in 2014 with its first store in Toronto.

Muji has previously stated that they plan to open up to 20 stores across Canada, though no official expansion plans have been shared.
