Muji to expand CF Richmond Centre location this spring

Japanese retailer Muji isn’t just expanding its store count in Canada, but its overall footprint. 

 
The company announced on Tuesday plans to expand its store in Richmond, British Columbia at CF Richmond Centre, which opened less than a year ago. 
 
The store - currently occupying 6,252 square feet of retail space - will expand by about one third of its original size to reach 9,212 square feet, becoming the fifth largest Muji store in Canada

“One year after opening Muji Richmond Centre, we think it’s time to thank our loyal customers by offering them an improved store environment and a better shopping experience,” said Toru Akita, president of Muji Canada.
 
The CF Richmond Centre store will house Muji Canada’s full range of merchandise including more than 4,000 items such as household goods, apparel and food. 
 
It will equally offer in-store customization services known as Muji Yourself and the Muji Gift service, a one-of-a-kind gift bag sealing machine for unique gifting options.
 
The announcement follows the re-opening of Muji’s original Toronto location, which was transformed into a flagship store. The 19,110-square-foot store spread over two floors is Muji’s largest outside of Asia. 
 
Since expanding to Canada in 2014, Muji has opened eight Canadian locations, with five stores located in the Greater Toronto Area and three stores in BC, including its first Canadian flagship in Vancouver.
 
The retailer has previously stated that it plans to open up to 20 stores across Canada, though no official expansion plans have been shared.
