In 2014, Khan signed a 90-year lease to build a 30,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and headquarters at 1175 Northwest South River Drive. The Miami-Dade County-owned property will house a training center and now a fashion school on the waterfront.

According to The Real Deal, Khan told the Miami River Commission board, “The whole idea behind building a fashion house is to build a whole new industry [to Miami.] We want to bring high-end jobs that pay over $50,000. The couture I make is a dying art. We want to train as many people as we can.”

Naeem Khan announced in 2014 that he is leaving New York City for Miami. The designer moved to the US in 1978 to work as an apprentice for Halston. He launched his namesake label in 2003 and introduced a bridal collection in 2013. Many celebrities have donned Khan’s dresses including the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, Michelle Obama, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift.
