'Girlboss,' the Netflix television show loosely based on Sophia Amoruso's life has been cancelled after one season Netflix - Netflix

The 13-episode first season debuted on Netflix in April, and was canceled in two months alongside popular Netflix shows The Get Down and Sense8. The streaming service announced the cancellations on Saturday.

Created by Pitch Perfect screenwriter Kay Cannon, ‘Girlboss’ follows the life of Amoruso and the events that led to her founding Nasty Gal.

Amoruso said on Instagram, "So that Netflix series about my life got canceled. While I'm proud of the work we did, I'm looking forward to controlling my narrative from here on out.”

The Nasty Gal founder controlled her narrative with her memoir, #Girlboss, which caught the attention of actress Charlize Theron, who executive produced the Netflix show loosely based on Amoruso’s life.

“It was a good show, and I was privileged to work with incredible talent, but living my life as a caricature was hard even if only for two months,” Amoruso said.

The show debuted months after Nasty Gal filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Los Angeles-based company has since been acquired by Boohoo.com.
