Nordstrom Rack to open at Tacoma Mall

Seattle-based retailer Nordstrom is bringing its off-price division to Tacoma, Washington with a Nordstrom Rack opening at Tacoma Mall, the company announced on Tuesday.

The 30,000-square-foot Nordstrom Rack store is scheduled to open in fall 2020 at the outdoor shopping and entertainment destination, which includes retailers like Ulta Beauty, Gap and Lush Cosmetics, in addition to Marcus Theatres, a multiplex theater with stadium seating.

"We are thrilled to open our first Nordstrom Rack store in Tacoma, which will bridge the gap for customers in both Pierce County and Thurston County," said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack, in a news statement.

"This will be our southernmost store in the state of Washington, serving customers in the Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Lakewood and surrounding communities. We've been operating a full line store in Tacoma since 1966, and we are excited to join a great retail environment in a convenient and accessible location. "

The luxury retailer, founded in 1901 as a shoe store, operates 378 stores in 40 states, including 115 full-line stores in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico and 248 Nordstrom Rack stores.

Nordstrom Rack, the firm's off-price division, offers a wide selection of on-trend apparel, accessories and shoes at up to 70 percent off regular prices.

In fact, Nordstrom Rack is the largest source of new customers to Nordstrom and serves as a greater introduction for new customers who may have never shopped at one of Nordstrom, Inc.'s full-line stores, the company said.

Most recently, the retailer was expanding across the border, announcing plans earlier this month to open its seventh Nordstrom Rack location in Canada, in Langley, British Columbia.

The luxury retailer opened its first Canadian store in September of 2014, at CF Chinook Centre in Calgary, and today operates six full line locations in the country, following openings in Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto.

Meanwhile, its first discount Rack store in Canada opened just last year in March 2018, at Vaughan Mills mall, north of Toronto, and has quickly opened a total of six locations in the country since.
