Muñoz makes the transition from her former role as president of the company. Previous to her experience at the retailer, Muñoz served as senior vice president of Torrid's former parent company Hot Topic and held an executive roll at Lucky Brand Jeans.

Muñoz, who identifies as a "big girl," has played an active roll in growing Torrid's line of apparel, fitting items onto models and herself, altering designs to be more comfortable and flattering, and traveling to the brand's intimates manufacturers to supervise the making of bra molds.

"Focusing on fit for the Torrid woman isn't just a trendy or business-oriented move, it's deeply personal to me," said Muñoz in a release. "After being forced to settle for the best of the worst for so many years, curvy women don't really know how clothes should fit their bodies... at Torrid, curvy women everywhere are now able to get the flawless, custom fit they deserve."

Torrid opened in 2001 and is a favorite of best-of plus-sized apparel lists and blogs. In the past, the brand has worked with celebrities like model Ashley Graham and actresses Rebel Wilson and Adrienne C. Moore.

Purchased by Sycamore Partners in 2013, the brand reports annual sales of $1 billion and operates 579 stores.
