Although online shopping continues to grow, a majority of consumers still prefer shopping malls, according to a survey commissioned by Simon and conducted by Dreyfus Advisors.

Of the 1200 shoppers included in the survey, malls take the lead when it comes to looking for something to wear for a special occasion (79% prefer malls). 77% of shoppers wanting to update their wardrobes prefer malls and 75% say they favor malls when shopping for special life events, including getting a new job or a new home.

Mikael Thygesen, Chief Marketing Officer for Simon, said: "Mall shopping is a fun, social, and rewarding experience that can't be replicated online and we're investing in our assets to ensure we remain the preferred choice of shoppers for years to come."

Those surveyed pointed to a number of reasons for preferring malls, including finding bargains, finding stores not found elsewhere and finding new discoveries they would not find online. Malls also made shopping more fun, were a place to escape and provided an easy shopping experience.
