Mobile shopping app Shopular has just been acquired by Ebates, the cash back shopping platform.

Shopular

Shopular is a very popular app used by over a million customers who appreciate getting the geo targeted coupons and sale notifications while they shop. Ebates is a leader in online cash back shopping and is a subsidiary of the global Internet services company Rakuten.

In an official release, the brands explained the acquisition will mean that "Shopular will introduce cash back shopping to its users, complementing the Shopular user experience with Ebates’ popular loyalty offering."

Founded in 2012, Shopular was started by Navneet Loiwal and Tommy Tsai in Redwood City, CA. The team will stay on after the acquisition.
“Ebates is the leader in online cash back shopping and is widely used by consumers of all demographics,” said Loiwal, General Manager of Shopular.

“We have always felt that joining the attractive Shopular product discovery experience with the trustworthiness of Ebates cash back shopping would be a winning combination. We are very excited about being able to leverage Ebates’ significant resources to deliver an even better experience to our users,” said Loiwal.

With the acquisition, Shopular will now offer a cash back feature.
“Shopular is the perfect partner to help us maximize our growth in the online and mobile commerce category,” said Kevin H. Johnson, CEO of Ebates.
Johnson continued, “[w]ith today’s consumers going mobile, it’s more important than ever to provide the right technologies to help them get the best deals, at the right time, as quickly as possible. We believe that the addition of Shopular to the Ebates family is the next step to making this happen.”

Over 2,000 retailers currently partner with Ebates.
