Described in a press release as an immersive pop art experience “designed and dedicated to honoring the pioneers and patrons of all things sneakers,” the temporary museum will feature elements of sports, music, film, art, fashion, humor and parody anchored in the famously fanatical footwear community.

Cultural figures featured in the museum’s exhibitions include Michael Jordan, Run DMC and Back to the Future stat Marty McFly, while artists and activations featured within the pop-up include Adam Fu, Alice Smoluk, James Haunt, Jason Dussault, Jonas Never, Kickstradomis, Ron Bass, Stomping Ground Customs and Tyson Park, among others. The museum said it will announce even more participants in the future.

Amid the artworks, the museum will also feature rare sneakers as well as multiple, undisclosed limited-edition merchandise drops.

“Sneakers have been a lightning rod for empowerment and expression over the past century, reaching across generations, backgrounds and borders,” the museum said. “This phenomenon that merges culture, creativity and commerce will take center stage at Sneakertopia.  As a celebration of sneaker culture, Sneakertopia brings together diverse audiences and creates community to inspire self-expression and individuality.”

The pop-up museum comes as the world of sneaker culture shows no sign of slowing, with worldwide communities forming around the selling and collecting of new, classic and rare sneakers. According to a Grand View Research study from 2018, the global athletic footwear market size is expected to reach USD 95.14 billion by 2025.
